I am all for everyone loving and choosing their own form of exercise. There is certainly no lack of options between bodybuilding, powerlifting, Olympic weight lifting, CrossFit and the list goes on and on. What is even better is we don’t all have to do the same weight training or exercise to build muscular strength, muscular endurance, or even become better athletes. There are several ways to work out, and you can do more than one, to reach your fitness goals.


The act or practice of exercising, lifting weights, so as to develop the muscles of the body. While this is a simple definition, we all know there are many ways to build your body. Whether your goal is to get bigger, stronger, or just have one heck of a physique, bodybuilding is a surefire way to accomplish this.


Healthy living is something we can all achieve. Many people know what they have to do yet they still struggle. The good news is you are not alone and there are some simple things we can all do in our quest for a healthier lifestyle.


Dumbbells are versatile and offer up a considerable number of options for upper body and lower body exercises and you can have hundreds of options for your entire body, even if you don't own any other pieces of gym equipment. Adjustable dumbbells are certainly worth the investment for the reasons listed above.


Powerbuilding is like peanut butter & jelly, when you combine each (both great on their own) you make something even better. It is the process of combining the main powerlifting exercises in the bench press, squat, and deadlift and incorporating them into a bodybuilding routine. Now you have a Powerbuilding routine! It’s that simple.


What’s My Spin On HIIT? Just add a W. Say What? No not what but Weight! See, just add the “W.” You still get rounds, high intensity periods and short rest periods of rest and workouts under 30 minutes. But, instead of primarily jumping or doing exercises with just your body weight or possibly a kettlebell, you will use; a barbell, kettlebell, a resistance band, dumbbells and some good old-fashioned free weights. Now you get your sweat on, exert yourself hard for 20 - 30 minutes and you get to gain some muscle. The workouts promise to make you work hard, sweat, and burn fat but now you get to build muscle at the same time. Yeah, I know, pretty cool right!


You get all the same benefits of the bodybuilding workout but in this programming, there is a significantly reduced number of barbell exercises. The reason for this is barbell work, traditionally, causes more joint issues than dumbbell or resistance band exercises. You will still be able to build or maintain significant muscled, depending on your goals, without using a barbell. Why? There is no one single exercise required in order to be able to build muscle. Not even barbell squats or barbell bench press. You can still gain significant size without these exercises.


The goals for youth at this point are for them to enjoy their exercise, teach fundamentals and gradually improve their strength. They can accomplish this with or without using weights. At the onset, even their body weight or resistance bands for exercise will help them build muscle. Your child can begin exercises with their body weight as early as 7 or 8. You just want to be sure they are mature enough to follow your or another adult's directions. As they progress, learn the movements, and have the desire to do more, they can begin more weight training exercises.
